This morning we made the most of the beautiful morning. Alistair & David hung willow hoops made by the students, in the wildlife area of our gardens creating an outdoor installation.
Horticap is a small garden centre and nursery for adults with learning difficulties. This blog shows art work created by students who take part in a weekly workshop run by Carol Sowden. The students are encouraged to express themselves within this creative environment, building on their individual talents and visual/verbal communication.

Silk Painting
Today Carl & Jamie are making scarves by painting onto silk! This beautiful scarf will be available to buy along with many others made by the students here at Horticap from late November

Today Alistair is working coloured pencils into pieces of wood found on our site. He is especially good at creating texture by pressing down hard with the pencils onto the wood.
Michael is having great fun making Angels from old books. Watch this space for this developing work for the students Exhibition at the end of the year.

Today we have a new member of the Art group; Paul. He has never drawn before but is doing very well creating "Brenda's" greenhouse with pencil and coloured pencils.
James creates another one of his fabulous detailed drawings, he leaves nothing out!
Jamie has been inspired by a balloon he saw early this morning. He has been learning new techniques with the painting brush and using them to great effect!

Caroline has a real eye for colour and circles. She has been drawing on slate today combining the bright coloured tones of pencils.
Willow has been the chosen material of the day. The students harvested the willow from our supply on site here at Horticap. They have bound and bended the branches together making open shapes to weave through. Mark has really got into the swing of it!
Pat is a real wiz at weaving and doing intricate work, i think we will be developing her thoughtful out work further!
Fraiser loves drawing Gremlins and playing the fool. His willow turns into a crown!

It is Rob's first time with the group and i think we have a natural talent on our hands. See the finished product at the students exhibition from the 1st of June http://horticapartexhibitions.blogspot.co.uk/
David and Vicky are utilizing off cuts from pallets. The pieces will eventually be used as name tags and the design of a tree.
Here are the finished recycled waste bins we started last week. They are now available to buy in the shop as Herb Pots and Kindling containers.

The students are being very industrious today. Tom is painting text on these metal bins so we can sell them in our shop
Steven is preparing tags to put on our gift tree that will be used at our bi-annual Garden Party held in June.
Vicky is making paper bunting for our Garden party from swatches donated by James Brindleys of Harrogate
Carl is using felt tip pens and is engrossed in his linear drawings of houses.

Today Alastair has explored mark making on sandpaper.
David is drawing on glass with acrylic paints. He has been scratching the surface of the paint to reveal the clear glass beneath
